Somewhere Between a Ripple and a Revolution
Human Rights, Talks with Tools
The feeling of helplessness easily looms when you look at the world. Yet there are ways to take action. During the Human Rights Tattoo event on 18 May in Tilburg, ten speakers, all bearers of a Human Rights Tattoo, will share how they deal with injustice, and what a person can do.
No grand gestures, but small steps with impact – from simply ‘not looking away’ to joining an initiative. They offer hopeful perspectives as well as concrete tools for those who want to make a difference.
Or as we put it ourselves: ‘When we zoom in, we see people who love, who work on wonderful projects, and who make a small difference every day.’ A community that lives and moves ‘somewhere between a ripple and a revolution’.
HRT MEET-UP: Somewhere Between a Ripple and a Revolution
The meetup on 18 May is the first in the Netherlands where the HRT community will be seen and heard together in this way. The title, ‘Somewhere Between a Ripple and a Revolution’, refers to the concept of Human Rights Tattoo. By talking about their tattoos, the bearers cause a small ripple in human rights awareness each time. Since 2012, this community has grown to 5,534 people in 89 countries, but nowhere are there as many members per inhabitant as in the Netherlands.
The afternoon will consist of:
🎤 10 6-minute presentations by and from members of the HRT community
📌 A Community Info Market – with local projects and initiatives you can join. (signing up as an initiative is still possible!)
📸 And of course: a group photo of our tattoo members – because no HRT meet-up without it!
Speakers on 18 May (o.v.b.)
Anna Saras, healthcare connector: from a file to a human being – why digital human rights are also human rights
Annemay Schaap, English teacher International School Eindhoven
Arantja Rosalina, product designer, on social change through accessible design
Bart van Kuijk, head of communications, Médecins Sans Frontières
Ingrid en Jasper, Unapologetically_Jass
Joy van Lieshout, social worker Contour de Twern
Kevin Cuykens, expert team Asylum and Migration Antwerp
Maria Kint, Impact Manager Human Rights Tattoo: a story about how small, random acts of kindness, are within everyone’s reach, cost nothing and make people human.
Tamira Waszink, TijdLab programmer
Xan Koster, policy officer UN disability convention Ieder(in)
Info Market:
Besides the inspiring speakers, there will also be an Info Market. Here you will have the opportunity to get in touch with Tilburg organisations that are working for human rights, inclusion and connection in their own way. Get inspired, ask questions, or find out how you can make contributions yourself.
Confirmed participants:
🕊️ Amnesty Tilburg – Find out all about their fight against injustice and how you can get involved in action and education. 💬 Stichting Brabant Maatjes – Find out how they break through loneliness with candid conversations and shared activities.🏳️🌈 Qult – Learn more about this vibrant queer community working towards a more inclusive Tilburg.
🗣️ Speak-Up Tilburg – Be touched by stories of experience and meet people who discuss prejudice.
The Info Market will take place during the intermission program from 14:00 to 15:00. Admission is free, curiosity required. Come along, get inspired, and be part of the movement!
This event is made possible by the City of Tilburg, Library Midden Brabant, Human Rights Tattoo Foundation and, of course, the community of HRT.
